Thousands Protest Across Country to Demand Truth From Trump Administration

Protesters took to the streets across the country on Saturday for the so-called March for Truth, calling for an independent investigation into alleged ties between Russia and President Donald Trump’s campaign. Marchers also called for the president to release his tax returns.

“People have to understand that this is a president who not only is trying to lead a coverup of his own Russia ties, but he has a problem with the truth in general,” Andrea Chalupa, an organizer with the March for Truth, told ABC News. “So we’re here standing up for the truth.”

This marked the latest in a series of anti-Trump rallies, including the Women’s March, Tax March, and March for Science.

Organizers said events were planned in more than 135 cities on Saturday, noting it marked another opportunity to keep people motivated to continue pushing back against the Trump administration.

“We gotta keep up the fight, that’s all there is to it,” said Jon Lovett, a former President Obama speechwriter who spoke at the rally in Washington.

In New York, protesters gathered in Foley Square and heard from numerous speakers, including Hamilton star Javier Muñoz and Rep. Jerrold Nadler.

In Chicago, thousands marched from Federal Plaza to Trump Tower. “Here’s a bit of the truth: President Trump is a liar,” Rep. Jan Schakowsky told the crowd.

Trump supporters, meanwhile, got together in Washington for a much smaller rally that they dubbed “Pittsburgh Not Paris.” That was a clear reference to Trump’s remarks this week that he was “elected to represent the citizens of Pittsburgh, not Paris” as a justification for pulling out of the Paris climate agreement. The Trump campaign had sent an email to supporters promoting the rally earlier this week.
