Roger Ailes, the founder of Fox News, has died, according to a statement from his wife Elizabeth Ailes posted to Drudge Report. Fox News confirmed the death of the 77-year-old Ailes via Twitter. The following is Elizabeth Ailes’ statement:

I am profoundly sad and heartbroken to report that my husband, Roger Ailes, passed away this morning. Roger was a loving husband to me, to his son Zachary, and a loyal friend to many. He was also a patriot, profoundly grateful to live in a country that gave him so much opportunity to work hard, to rise—and to give back. During a career that stretched over more than five decades, his work in entertainment, in politics, and in news affected the lives of many millions. And so even as we mourn his death, we celebrate his life…

Roger Ailes resigned as CEO of Fox News and Fox Television Stations in July 2016 after sexual harassment allegations from Gretchen Carlson, Megyn Kelly, and others. Although Fox settled with Carlson for a reported $20 million, Ailes denied the charges. Ailes was paid $40 million by Fox upon his resignation.

This is a developing story.
