The New York Times reported Wednesday that FBI Director James Comey was fired just days after he met with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to request more money for the FBI’s Russia investigation. The Times’ Matthew Rosenberg and Matt Apuzzo write that according to three officials, Comey asked the Department of Justice “for a significant increase in money and personnel.”

Rosenstein is the author of a critical memo on Comey’s handling of the FBI’s Clinton email investigation. The White House released that memo Tuesday night, attached to President Trump’s letter to Comey informing him of his dismissal.

Update May 10, 12:14 PM: The Department of Justice’s Director of Public Affairs Sara Flores is denying the Times’ report according to Politico’s Josh Gerstein.

This is a developing story. We’ll update this post as we learn more.
