Racist incidents have been on the rise across the United States since Donald Trump was elected president. Details of disturbing incidents have been popping up on social media since Tuesday and some experts say it’s the biggest rise in these types of events since right after the 2001 terrorist attacks.

"Since the election, we've seen a big uptick in incidents of vandalism, threats, intimidation spurred by the rhetoric surrounding Mr. Trump's election," Richard Cohen, president of the Southern Poverty Law Center told USA Today. "The white supremacists out there are celebrating his victory and many are feeling their oats." The SPLC has recorded more than 200 complaints since the election.

The Islamic community in the United States is feeling particularly vulnerable right now. "It's kind of a very tense time for the American Muslim community and people are really anxious about the future," Ibrahim Hooper, communications director for the Council on American-Islamic Relations, said.

While the number of incidents continue to increase, many are calling on Trump to denounce the attacks. "Though not all [incidents] are verifiable, the atmosphere of intimidation and fear is unquestionably real and will keep growing," the New York Times said in an editorial. "Mr. Trump may not be able to stop it by himself, but he must do everything he can."

Below is a far-from-complete selection of a few of the incidents that have left many in the country reeling since Tuesday. The list will be updated as more incidents come to light.
