Clinton Campaign Chairman Dismisses Rally for the Night

It’s after 2 a.m. EST, and Hillary Clinton is about to lose the presidential election, but it’s not quite official yet. What should she do? She either made the decision, or the decision was made for her, to send campaign Chairman John Podesta on stage at the Javits Center to tell her supporters gathered there to go home.

“Well, folks, I know you’ve been here a long time,” he said below a glass ceiling that remains intact. “And it’s been a long night. And it’s been a long campaign. But I can say we can wait a little longer, can’t we?”

“Several states are too close to call,” he continued, “so we’re not going to have anything more to say tonight. So, listen, listen to me. Everybody should head home. You should get some sleep. We’ll have more to say tomorrow.”

It is unclear what Podesta and Clinton think will be different in the morning.

Update: The networks are reporting that Hillary Clinton has called Donald Trump to concede.
