Judge Jeanine Pirro really dislikes Hillary Clinton. Really, really dislikes her. The Fox News host often dedicates much of her show to criticizing anything and everything about the Democratic candidate and her campaign. She has accused Clinton of waging “her own war on women” and “her own war on religion.” She has said Clinton staffers should be indicted for inciting violence at Donald Trump rallies. She has even harshly criticized Clinton for using a private email server and the FBI for failing to prosecute the candidate over the emails.
In short, at any given turn, Pirro has not wasted any opportunities in the campaign to defend Trump and go after Clinton. Her ability to come to the Republican candidate’s defense even at his most indefensible led the Washington Post’s Erik Wemple to describe her as a “key Fox News apologist for Trump.”
Despite this precedent, when it comes to the latest twist in the presidential campaign, Pirro is with her. On Saturday, Pirro opened her show Justice With Judge Jeanine by blasting FBI Director James Comey, saying that his decision to send a letter to Congress regarding the newly discovered emails “disgraces and politicizes” the bureau.
“The Justice Department and the FBI’s policy to not comment publicly about politically sensitive investigations within 60 days of an election exists for a very important reason,” she later added. “Announcements so close to elections have an impact. Now this nation has already gone through an exhausting and traumatic campaign season. The FBI director should not now be front and center. One of the most revered agencies in our nation’s history, now seen as putting its finger on the scales of justice should not now be front and center.”
Pirro said she suffered a similar experience in 2006 when she was running for New York attorney general and the FBI and the Justice Department announced they were opening an investigation. It was “mean-spirited and, of course, nothing came of it, except the adverse publicity cost me at the polls.”
“What was done to me in 2006 was wrong, and what happened to Hillary Clinton [Friday], was equally wrong,” Pirro said. But of course, her defense only went so far: “Hillary Clinton should have been indicted a long time ago.”
