The Republican candidate for president may have called Anthony Weiner a “pervert” and a “major sleaze” in the past, but he’s now pretty happy with the disgraced former congressman. Speaking at a rally in Las Vegas, Trump mentioned how the FBI has discovered potentially pertinent emails to the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private server. And — without any basis in fact — said that some of Clinton’s 33,000 deleted emails could be among those the bureau will examine when it looks through Weiner’s computer.
“To cover up her crimes, she bleached and deleted 33,000 e-mails after receiving a congressional subpoena,” Trump said. “But I have a feeling they’ve just found a lot of them, don’t you think? Have a feeling … They just found a lot of them. We never thought we were going to say thank you to Anthony Weiner.”
Someone at the Trump rally tried to start a “Weiner” chant, “but few added their voices to his cause,” notes NBC News.
Trump’s campaign has been reenergized by FBI Director James Comey’s letter Friday that publicly announced the bureau was once again set to examine emails that could be related to Clinton’s use of a private server while secretary of state. Trump and his campaign are now paying more attention to traditionally Democratic states in an effort to sway voters in places that were once seen out of reach, reports the Washington Post.
