Update, Oct. 13: In a rare outbreak of public decency, Giuliani has acknowledged that Hillary Clinton had never claimed to be in New York on 9/11 and apologized for suggesting otherwise.

Original post, Oct. 12: Rudy Giuliani is one of Donald Trump’s top surrogates and advisers despite seeming to do nothing for Trump except committing gaffes and amplifying his worst impulses. On Wednesday, Rudy was at it again. Via NBC News’ Bradd Jaffy:

It’s true that Hillary Clinton does not appear to have been at Ground Zero on 9/11. However:

1. I can’t find any evidence that she actually ever said she was there. (Tweet at me @benmathislilley if I’m wrong about this.) It’s well-established that Clinton was in Washington, D.C., on Sept. 11, 2001, which is appropriate because she was serving as a senator and Congress was in session.

2. Clinton has said that she visited Ground Zero the next day—which she did, with Rudy Giuliani. The photo above was taken Sept. 12, as was this one, which also includes New York’s other senator at the time, Chuck Schumer:

Maybe she can be in the “Never Forget” Club after all?
