Mike Pence Won’t Appear at Paul Ryan Event Saturday Either

Donald Trump and Mike Pence were supposed to appear with Paul Ryan at a unity rally in Wisconsin on Saturday. The Republican Party, however, is currently extremely un-unified, and it had already been reported that Trump would miss the event. Now it looks like Pence, whose potential presidential candidacy has been floated by some Republicans as a last-minute alternative to keeping Trump on the ticket, is missing it too:

Confirmation here.

Is this a prelude to Pence dropping off the ticket? Ryan trying to disassociate himself from all parts of his party’s ongoing disaster? A function of Pence needing to be involved in some of the many emergency meetings doubtless taking place today? It’s not clear. Here’s what is clear: CHAOS REIGNS.

Update, 1 p.m.: Pence has put out a statement about the Trump tape.

There’s a lot of Trump-campaign spin in there (mentioning that the tape is 11 years old, which apparently is supposed to be a long time ago; saying Trump can show what’s “in his heart,” which is ostensibly different from what comes out of his mouth). So as of now it looks like Pence is sticking with the ticket.
