So it seems there is at least one person in this world who can resist Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s boyish charms. And it’s none other than a little boy himself: Prince George. The 3-year-old son of Prince William and Kate Middleton refused to be charmed by Trudeau. And boy did Trudeau try. He squatted down to George’s level and tried a high-five, then a low-five until finally attempting a regular old handshake, but the little prince didn’t change his mind.

The rejection took place Saturday, shortly after Prince William and Middleton arrived with Prince George and 16-month-old Princess Charlotte at Victoria Airport for a weeklong official visit.

Canadians were shocked, “accustomed as they are to seeing their young premier win over millions of fans around the world and attain social media star status,” notes Reuters.

The British media, of course, had a field day. “Sorry, one doesn’t high five with commoners,” wrote the Daily Mail.

When it comes to princely greetings then, President Obama has one up on Trudeau. Prince George did deign himself to shake Obama’s hand when he visited England in April. But maybe George was feeling more comfortable considering he was wearing pajamas and a robe at the time.
