Donald Trump Jr. made a little splash Monday night by sending out a plagiarized, badly punctuated anti-refugee meme image that turns out to have involved the unauthorized use of a photo that was originally taken by, yes, a refugee.
It’s not his only recent act of smug white idiocy.
- In March he retweeted a message by a writer who has complained about interracial dating and said that being gay is a birth defect. In the same month Trump Jr. did an interview with a white-pride radio host.
- In July he “liked” a tweet by an account he followed that often posts pictures of Jews with exaggeratedly large noses, cartoons in which Judaism is an octopus strangling the Earth, etc.
- In August he retweeted an anti-Hillary message posted by a prominent white supremacist “scholar.”
- Earlier in September he posted a white supremacist meme on Instagram.
- Last week he dropped a casual reference to gas chambers into a complaint about the media.
- Tuesday morning he tweeted a story about “Europe’s Rape Epidemic,” which included, for example, the dubious claim that “tens of thousands of young British girls” have been “brutalised, tortured, beaten and raped by organised gangs comprised almost exclusively of Muslims.”

Question: What does this clown have to be so angry about? Why does someone with his materially comfortable background develop an affection for the intellectual output of basement masturbators and neo-Nazis? Is it because he wants to be sheltered from nagging critical perspectives that acknowledge the role of structural racism in social outcomes by a worldview which conveniently posits that disadvantaged groups are disadvantaged because they deserve to be? Is it possible that the white nationalist internet is Donald Trump Jr.’s safe space?
