Donald Trump said on Saturday night that a “bomb went off” in New York City before authorities had confirmed anything. “I must tell you that just before I got off the plane, a bomb went off in New York and nobody knows exactly what’s going on,” said Trump shortly after he stepped off his plane in Colorado Springs. Trump spoke 45 minutes after a blast injured 29 people, and he used the opportunity to say the country needs to get “tough.”
“But boy, we are living in a time—we better get very tough, folks. We better get very, very tough. We’ll find out. It’s a terrible thing that’s going on in our world, in our country and we are going to get tough and smart and vigilant. … We’ll see what it is. We’ll see what it is.”
He then proceeded to talk poll numbers. “A new poll … just came out, we’re up four points in Colorado,” Trump said.
