Ben Carson, Today’s Unlikely Voice of Campaign Reason, Says Trump Should Apologize for Birtherism

In a reversal, Ben Carson got to play the voice of reason on the campaign trail Tuesday when the former presidential contender turned Trump supporter and surrogate was asked by CNN’s Jake Tapper about one of Trump’s pet conspiracy theories—birtherism. Tapper asked Carson if perhaps Trump’s outreach to black voters would go better if he acknowledged that President Obama was not, in fact, born in Kenya and apologized for being a driver of the patently racist theory.

Carson, after briefly looking like me might yawn off the question, agreed that Trump should apologize.

Trump will never apologize.
