Today’s Trump Apocalypse Watch: What’s Hillary Cooking Up?

The Trump Apocalypse Watch is a subjective daily estimate, using a scale of one to four horsemen, of how likely it is that Donald Trump will be elected president, thus triggering an apocalypse in which we all die.

Donald Trump has crept up in the polls a little bit over the past two weeks. He’s now within four points of Hillary Clinton in RealClearPolitics’ running average and six points in HuffPo Pollster’s. With the exception of a speech outlining Trump’s connection to “alt-right” white supremacists, Clinton has mostly been staying under the radar during this period, apparently because she’s been doing so much private fundraising. From CNN:

Clinton headlined 37 fundraisers in August, raising her campaign close to $70 million in the process, according to CNN’s estimate based on average ticket prices and attendance figures provided by the Clinton campaign.

The obvious question, then, is: What’s Hillary going to do with all them lootcakes? Is she going to continue to play a defensive game, using the money only to buy ads that highlight Trump’s various scandals and to finance her highly reputized get-out-the-vote ground game? Is she confident enough to send big portions of her haul—much of which was raised jointly with other Democratic groups—to candidates downballot? Are we going to see her home in on associating herself with one or more high-profile policy proposals, or is she more concerned with improving her image on a human-interest personal level? Is she going to book an all-star national rally tour with Elizabeth Warren, Joe Biden, and Barack Obama? Might she parade through the streets of a major city shooting the money out of a cannon, like the Joker, in an attempt to provoke a climactic showdown with the Batman? We’ll see, folks, we’ll see.
