The Trump Apocalypse Watch is a subjective daily estimate, using a scale of one to four horsemen, of how likely it is that Donald Trump will be elected president, thus triggering an apocalypse in which we all die.
The Donald Trump campaign didn’t do anything today that seems likely to move the needle, as it were; it made headlines for claiming that polls are biased because people are afraid to admit they’re fascists and for pushing the conspiracy theory that Hillary Clinton is in poor health, but both of those stories read more to me as desperate wingnut indulgences than useful strategic initiatives.
However, it has been pointed out to me that keeping our danger level at a mere 0.5 horsemen for a long period, as we’ve done recently, creates an unhelpful sense of complacency. Or, to put it another way, just because there’s a relatively small chance of Donald Trump becoming president doesn’t mean we should forget that there’s a chance of Donald Trump becoming president.
As such, I’m raising the danger level just for today to a symbolically hysterical 3.5 horsemen. Don’t let your guard down, America!
