Here is what we’re talking about today:
- Using an obscure legal loophole, the head of Missouri’s public defender system has enlisted the Gov. of Missouri to serve as a public defender because the governor has failed to fund the public defender system. Ashton Kutcher was not involved.
- It looks like Melania Trump is either lying about her immigration history or working in the United States without papers. Either way, Donald Trump is a gross hypocrite.
- “[Donald] Trump is one sick puppy, and he may well continue pushing Paul Ryan for fun, debasement, and to test the speaker’s limits.”
- A conservative firebrand lost his Republican primary for his House seat. He and his friends are angry at Paul Ryan. A similar situation did not end well for John Boehner.
- Mike Pence is endorsing a bunch of people his boss Donald Trump still is declining to endorse.
- A Baltimore cop gets convicted of assault—not murder—after shooting and killing a burglar when, as one of his fellow officers put it, “The threat was over.”
- After dodging earlier in the day, Mike Pence’s staff clarifies that unlike Donald Trump, the vice presidential nominee will support John McCain and Kelly Ayotte in their primaries.
- This is the best anti-Trump protest we’ve seen yet, by far.
- Let us not forget today’s Trump Apocalypse Watch.
Peace out, friends of Slate!
