Today’s Trump Apocalypse Watch: Uh-Oh

The Trump Apocalypse Watch is a subjective daily estimate, using a scale of one to four horsemen, of how likely it is that Donald Trump will be elected president, thus triggering an apocalypse in which we all die.

Well, it’s happened. Donald Trump is ahead of Hillary Clinton in most polls. And while a typical convention bounce for Clinton this week would put her back in the lead, the fact remains: Donald Trump is currently winning the presidential race.

Hillary Clinton is also in the middle of (another) email scandal that has caused quite a bit of party disarray as the DNC gets underway. The good news for Hillz, as Slate’s Josh Voorhees points out in the afore-linked piece, is that said disarray—which concerns hacked Democratic National Committee emails—will likely be overshadowed by all the positive speeches about her that will be given this week by figures such as the Obamas, Joe Biden, and Elizabeth Warren. The bad news is that it appears that Russian agents were behind the hack, and they may have more incriminating emails than the ones that were just released. And that, for Hillary Clinton’s chances of defeating Donald Trump in November, is not good.
