Today’s biggest stories:
- After 36 hours of denying it, the Trump campaign admitted that parts of Melania Trump’s Monday RNC speech were copied from a 2008 speech by Michelle Obama. (Here’s video of all the times the Trump campaign and its surrogates lied about the speech before the admission, and here’s today’s Trump Apocalypse Watch.)
- Elsewhere in Cleveland, Third Eye Blind (!) made a lot of delegates at an afterparty unhappy by talking about gay rights and climate change.
- Onstage, Chris Christie continued to develop the week’s theme, which is that Hillary Clinton should be put in jail forever.
- It seemed like Donald Trump Jr. might have plagiarized part of his Tuesday speech but it turned out he didn’t.
- Christie also suggested Donald Trump Sr. might try to purge Obama-era civil servants from the government if he wins the election.
- A report asserted that the Trump campaign tried to get John Kasich on board as Trump’s running mate by promising him that as VP he could more or less run the country without Trump’s interference.
- Here’s a summary of all the other weird things that happened on Day 2 of the convention.
- We caught up with famous/infamous ex-South Carolina governor Mark Sanford, who finds a lot of things about the Trump campaign disturbing.
- Another federal judge ruled against a draconian state voter I.D. law; this time the law in question was passed in Texas.
- Our series of interviews with the white supremacists hanging around the RNC continued.
- Another of our ace reporters eavesdropped on Karl Rove while he was getting up to some sort of hustle in an elevator.
- Finally, CNN bad.
Have a good night out there.
