While Baton Rouge shooter Gavin Long’s fatal assault on police officers appears to have been premeditated, authorities say that they’ve determined that he did not make the 911 call that drew officers to the scene of the attack. From NBC:

Police do not think that tipster was the attacker or an accomplice, Louisiana State Police Col. Mike Edmonson said.

“It was someone who was calling in,” he said, adding that there “was no indication” that the initial call was “trying to lure someone here.”

Long, a 29-year-old Marine veteran from Kansas City, killed three officers and injured three others with an AR-15-style rifle on Sunday morning before he was himself shot and killed.

Per CNN, Long legally changed his name to “Cosmo Ausar Setepenra” in 2015 and appears to have been affiliated with several anti-government fringe groups including a “sovereign tribe” called the United Washitaw De Dugdahmoundvah Mu’er nation.
