After a long, hard day of being announced (again) as Donald Trump’s vice presidential candidate, Mike Pence took to Twitter to share that he and his family were stopping at noted chain restaurant Chili’s Grill & Bar in New York before returning to Indiana.
In some corners of Twitter, this move was derided.
In others, this was considered a smooth, trollish move.
Not here. Listen, there is a joke to be made about how, of all restaurants in New York, Mike Pence chose Chili’s. But not everyone wants to eat at not Chili’s, and also that is the sort of joke that typically does not endear publications to, say, people who occasionally enjoy Chili’s.
Moreover, depending on your thoughts on Donald Trump, eating at Chili’s in New York is very much preferable to deciding to be Trump’s running mate. Similarly, depending on your political views, eating at Chili’s in New York is much better than supporting (and/or backpeddling on) legislation that allows discrimination against LGBTQ people and proposing the deportation of undocumented workers.
All in all, a pretty good evening for Mike Pence, presumptive Republican vice presidential candidate.
