Bahamas issued a rare travel advisory on Friday, saying those visiting the United States should be careful following the recent shootings of black men by police officers. The advisory, which came shortly before the country’s Independence Day holiday on July 10, calls on all citizens to avoid protests and crowds in the United States and urges young men in particular to be particularly cautious when interacting with law enforcement.
“We wish to advise all Bahamians traveling to the US but especially to the affected cities to exercise appropriate caution generally. In particular young males are asked to exercise extreme caution in affected cities in their interactions with the police. Do not be confrontational and cooperate,” notes the warning.
Around 91 percent of the country’s population of 300,000 people is black, according to the CIA.
