One Killed in Tennessee by Man Firing at Highway Because He Was “Angry About Police Violence”

An indiscriminate shooting attack in Bristol, Tennessee, that killed one woman and injured three others appears to have been perpetrated by another individual claiming to be retaliating for recent high-profile incidents of apparent police brutality. The suspect in the attack, 37-year-old Lakeem Keon Scott, was wounded in an exchange of fire with police and is hospitalized. From the AP:

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation alleges Scott—armed with an assault rifle, a pistol and a large amount of ammunition—fired shots through the window of the Days Inn on Volunteer Parkway. … The gunman then turned his fire to cars passing on the highway, investigators say.

The attack took place at approximately 2:20 a.m. A 44-year-old mother of two driving to pick up newspapers for a delivery job died when she was struck with a bullet and crashed her car.

To state the obvious, it’s not clear how firing at a hotel clerk and random cars constitutes retaliation against police officers in Louisiana and Minnesota. One Bristol officer was slightly injured while apprehending Scott but has been treated and released.
