Today’s biggest stories:
- A video out of Baton Rouge, Louisiana shows two police officers shooting a black man named Alton Sterling who they have pinned to the ground; Sterling was armed but it’s not clear that he was holding his gun or whether he did anything else to threaten officers. The Department of Justice has already announced that it will investigate the case. (Here’s why the DOJ might be able to investigate the incident more effectively than authorities in Louisiana.)
- Ex-Fox News host Gretchen Carlson sued network chairman Roger Ailes for repeated sexual harassment.
- Hillary Clinton joined literally all of the remaining presidential candidates from every party in denouncing a “rigged” system. (Here’s today’s Trump Apocalypse Watch.)
- Some House Democrats apparently booed Bernie Sanders in a closed-door meeting.
- House Republicans, meanwhile, are calling FBI director James Comey to testify about why he didn’t recommend charging Clinton with email-related crimes.
- President Obama is changing the Afghanistan withdrawal timetable yet again.
- Lionel Messi was sentenced to jail on tax evasion charges but will probably not actually serve time.
- And Roger Federer won his Wimbledon quarterfinal after being down two sets to none. Roger!
Have a good night out there.
