Just Tuesday, in more innocent times, I wrote that Republicans “don’t seem inclined to do much more than grumble” about the FBI’s decision not to recommend criminal charges against Hillary Clinton. The party’s initial responses to FBI Director James Comey’s press conference explaining the move had expressed disappointment and anger but did not demand further action, and it seemed as if the GOP had perhaps learned a lesson about diminishing returns when House Republicans’ sixth (!) Benghazi investigation recently whimpered to a close.
Update: Nope! From a press release just put out by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform:
Today, after the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) recommendation not to prosecute former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for maintaining a private server, House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) announced that FBI Director James Comey will testify before the Oversight Committee on Thursday, July 7, 2016.
Politico reports that House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes has also made noises about opening an investigation.
House Republicans are going to do what they do, I guess.
