Watch Two Minutes of Congress’ Response to Mass Shootings: Silence

Stunt or no, the 15-hour filibuster in the Senate that ended early Thursday morning was a stark contrast to the more typical congressional response to mass shootings: silence. After Connecticut Rep. Jim Himes denounced such moments of silence as a “smug ‘We care’ statement in the face of gross negligence,” several Democrats walked out when one was called for Orlando victims in the House on Tuesday. The grim ritual has become a symbol of congressional inaction on guns.

The video above shows 13 of those moments from 2011 to this week. Strung together, one after another, they are even more galling.
