Voice Contestant Christina Grimmie Shot and Killed at Orlando Concert

Update, 6:05 p.m.: Police have identified the shooter as Saint Petersburg, Florida resident Kevin James Loibl. Although his age was originally given as 21, he was 27.

Singer Christina Grimmie was shot and killed at the Plaza Live theater in Orlando on Friday night, the Orlando Sentinel reports. Grimmie, who appeared on season six of NBC’s The Voice, was signing autographs after a show when a 21-year-old man approached and shot her. The gunman was then tackled by Grimmie’s brother Marcus and shot and killed himself in the struggle.

The shooter’s name has not been released, but Orlando police say he did not know Grimmie and had traveled to the venue from another city in Florida. According to CNN, Grimmie’s killer was armed with two handguns with extra magazines and a hunting knife.

Grimmie was there to open for Orlando locals Before You Exit, and was scheduled to appear with them next weekend in San Francisco and West Hollywood. The band posted a statement on Twitter:

Adam Levine, who was her coach on The Voice, also mourned her on Twitter, posting a photograph of the two together.

Shortly before the show, Grimmie, who rose to fame through her YouTube channel, posted a video urging fans to attend the show.

Grimmie was 22.
