President Obama Endorses Hillary: “I’m With Her”

And welcome to the general election! President Obama on Thursday formally endorsed Hillary Clinton. The announcement came shortly after the president met with Bernie Sanders at the White House, after which Bernie sounded like a man ready to accept his fate.

While it was pretty obvious throughout the Democratic primary that Obama favored his former secretary of state over Sanders, the president was careful to stay out of what turned into a much more competitive nominating contest than anyone expected. (Speaking outside the White House on Thursday afternoon, Sanders thanked Obama and Vice President Joe Biden for their “impartiality” in the contest.) But now that Clinton is the presumptive nominee, Obama is ready go out on the campaign trail, where he’ll no doubt lay into Donald Trump every chance he gets. According to the Washington Post, the president plans to hit the stump for Clinton as soon as next week.
