Donald Trump Points to “My African-American Over Here” at Rally to Show How Not Racist He Is

During a rally on Friday in Redding, California, Donald Trump took a moment to highlight the inclusive, totally big-tent vibe his campaign for president has been cultivating. In a typical stream of consciousness flurry of sentence fragments from Trump, the candidate highlighted his alleged support from African-Americans.

It went about as well as you would expect. From the New York Times:

Mr. Trump, at a rally here, began speaking about a previous rally in Arizona in which a black supporter was arrested after punching a protester. “We had a case where we had an African-American guy who is a fan of mine,” Mr. Trump said of an event in Arizona in March. “In fact I want to find out what’s going on with him.” As his voice trailed off, Mr. Trump noticed a man in the crowd. “Oh look at my African-American over here,” Mr. Trump said. “Are you the greatest? Do you know what I’m talking about?” Mr. Trump then returned to speaking about the Arizona episode.

Trump, surprisingly, didn’t ask if his two black supporters knew each other because it totally felt like it was coming. The supporter Trump singled out was GOP congressional candidate Gregory Cheadle.
