Today’s biggest news stories:
- Donald Trump released a list of potential Supreme Court nominees that appears to have been cleverly crafted to mollify conservatives who weren’t convinced of his ideological bona fides. (One of the judges named, though, has been mocking Trump on Twitter for months.)
- Trump is also planning a showbizzy, dramatic convention that will probably be very effective. (Here’s today’s Trump Apocalypse Watch.)
- Smart moves aside, Trump is still himself, though, which means he was also just quoted in the New York Times Magazine claiming with no justification whatsoever that Ferguson, Missouri is one of the most dangerous places in the world.
- More details emerged about actor Wendell Pierce’s 3:30 a.m. Saturday arrest for allegedly striking a woman after an argument about Bernie Sanders got out of control.
- Bernie won Oregon; Hillary looks like she’ll win Kentucky. (That’s the good news for her today; the bad news is that one of her allies, former Pennsylvania governor Ed Rendell, boasted that she’ll have an advantage in November among “ugly women.”)
- And a lobbyist accidentally prepared the same testimony for two witnesses at a Medicare hearing.
