Today’s Trump Apocalypse Watch: Endorsement, Schmendorsement

The Trump Apocalypse Watch is a subjective daily estimate, using a scale of one to four horsemen, of how likely it is that Donald Trump will be elected president, thus triggering an apocalypse in which we all die.

The big Trump story right now concerns all the endorsements he’s not getting from prominent Republicans. Since his nomination became inevitable, GOP figures including two senators, former nominee Mitt Romney, and everyone named Bush have announced they will not support Trump. This, of course, probably doesn’t matter to the Trump fans who like him because he’s shaken up the party, but it does not bode well for his chances of securing the votes of all the Republicans and GOP-leaning independents who haven’t voted for him during primary season.

On another front, CNN reported that the FBI’s inquiry into Hillary Clinton’s private email server has not found any evidence of “criminal wrongdoing.” One thing that could really jack up Trump’s chances of winning, of course, is his opponent getting indicted; at this point, though, it seems like Clinton’s handling of her email account, while it may have been highly irresponsible and hypocritical, was not criminal.

Today, the danger level stays low.
