Former Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel has been indicted on a misdemeanor assault charge for allegedly hitting an ex-girlfriend and forcing her into a car on Jan. 30:

Manziel’s ex-girlfriend Colleen Crowley reportedly told police that the quarterback attacked her after they argued in his room at a Dallas hotel. A judge later granted Crowley a restraining order against Manziel.

Manziel was cut by the Cleveland Browns in March and has not yet signed a contract with another NFL team. Agent Drew Rosenhaus announced on April 19 that he would no longer represent Manziel, reportedly because of the quarterback’s failure to seek treatment for substance abuse issues; Manziel’s previous agent severed ties with him in February for reportedly similar reasons.

Manziel’s attorney has said the quarterback plans to plead not guilty to the charges.
