Last week the New York Daily News editorial board published the transcript of a revelatory interview with Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders that has continued to haunt the Vermont senator. On Tuesday, the newspaper released another embarrassing transcript, this time from a Republican presidential candidate.

In its interview with Ohio Gov. John Kasich last week, the paper’s editorial board got the man currently in a distant third in the GOP nominating contest to sort of endorse the Democratic governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, for the presidency. Here’s the transcript as flagged by Huffington Post’s Igor Bobic.

The pseudo-endorsement isn’t as bad as it first appears, as it seems to be a possibly jokey callback by Kasich to an earlier question from the Daily News (“Should Andrew Cuomo be running for president?”) that Kasich had originally declined to give a straight answer to. Still, that the Daily News got the fiscally conservative governor of Ohio to tacitly acknowledge that his budget accomplishments could be achieved—or surpassed—by a Democratic governor of the liberal state of New York is a win for the paper and loss for Kasich. Either way, one of the breakout stars of the past two weeks of the campaign has been and continues to be that editorial board.

Kasich trails Donald Trump by nearly 35 points in New York ahead of next Tuesday’s primary in an average of recent polling by RealClearPolitics and is in a distant fourth in the Republican delegate count behind Trump, Sen. Ted Cruz, and Sen. Marco Rubio (who dropped out of the race last month).
