The Democratic presidential contest has become markedly more stupid since exiting Wisconsin and entering New York. Sen. Bernie Sanders went on a riff Wednesday night about Hillary Clinton’s lack of qualification for the presidency and now apparently doesn’t want to talk about it anymore. Clinton, meanwhile, has tried this morning to score points off of Sanders’ DEVASTATING gaffe about subway tokens by riding the subway for a hot second.
During his interview with the New York Daily News editorial board late last week, Sanders, who grew up in New York City a long time ago, said that one gets on the New York subway by depositing a token. Some people took great issue with this anachronistic understanding of fare payment in modern transit systems. Clinton’s team, sensing a wide opening for demonstrating the former senator’s knowledge of modern transit systems, scheduled a subway ride for Thursday morning.
Clinton’s itinerary took her all the way from the 161st Street station to the 170th Street station. No big deal, just ridin’ the subway for a whole two stops. Classic New York City.
Golly, was it ever a delightful adventure.
Clinton, unfortunately, had some trouble swiping her fare card. That’s not an entirely uncommon occurrence, but it’s something that took Republican opposition group America Rising a whole nanosecond to upload to YouTube.
One thinks there are still tokens, the other can’t swipe properly. To the extent that either subway thing “matters,” which they don’t, they cancel each other out. What’s next? Maybe Bernie Sanders will take a bus or walk down the street, oh boy.
