Video Catches Police Officer Body Slamming and Handcuffing Female Middle School Student

A San Antonio district school has launched an investigation into a video posted to YouTube this week showing a school police officer violently body slamming a female middle school student. The incident took place on March 29th at Rhodes Middle School, but officials at the charter school say they only were made award of the video this week. The uniformed officer is Joshua Kehm has been placed on administrative leave.

Details are still sketchy, but a school spokeswoman said Kehm was thought to be responding to a verbal altercation between two students. The 30-second video appears to be shot with a cell phone while students gathered around the officer and the student, who school officials have declined to identify by name. In the video, Kehm has the girl in a bear hug from behind before he lifts her off the ground and throws her face first onto the sidewalk. The girl lies face down without moving while the officer handcuffs her and her schoolmates ask if she’s OK.

“This video is very concerning, and we are working to get all of the details,” the school district spokeswoman said. “We certainly want to understand what all occurred, and we are not going to tolerate excessive force in our district.”
