Mexicans set fire to effigies of Donald Trump as part of an annual Easter ritual this weekend. The tradition is akin to the “burning of Judas” in which Christians burn effigies of Judas around Easter. Mexicans get a bit more creative every year and burn effigies of all kinds of public figures they may dislike. This year, to no one’s surprise, Donald Trump took a starring role as people gathered to cheer papier-maché mock-ups of the real estate mogul go up in flames across the country.

“Since he started his campaign and began talking about immigrants, Mexico, and Mexicans, I said ‘I’ve got to get this guy,’” said Felipe Linares, an artisan who crafted one of the Trumps that went up in flames.

Although it’s hardly a secret Mexicans are no fans of Trump, the effigies that were set alight were bipartisan in nature. President Obama’s effigy, for example, was also set ablaze.
