Watch Portland Crowd Go Wild When Bird Interrupts Bernie Sanders Rally

A tiny bird had a huge impact on a Bernie Sanders rally in Portland, Oregon on Friday when it made an unexpected entrance as the presidential hopeful was speaking. The audience first pointed the bird out to Sanders when it landed on the ground near the podium. The senator from Vermont laughed and said, “Now you see, this little bird doesn’t know it…”

Sanders couldn’t finish his thought though as the bird then flew up and landed on the podium, where he stayed for a few seconds as the senator smiled and shook his head while the crowd went wild. Sanders even shrugged his shoulders at one point, as if completely flabbergasted about the reaction that this tiny bird had elicited from his supporters.

The bird seemed to be staring at Sanders for a bit but then flew off. Sanders was quick on his feet. “I think, I think there may be some symbolism here,” Sanders told the excited crowd. “I know it doesn’t look like it, but that bird is really a dove asking us for world peace. No more wars!”

Many in the crowd though were probably bemused by the fact that this bird was taking a starring role in Portland of all places. A 2011 episode of Portlandia made the phrase “put a bird on it” popular as it made fun of the hipster aesthetic.
