Another man who was allegedly sexually abused by former Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert may speak at the ex-Illinois congressman’s sentencing on charges related to a blackmail transaction, a court transcript has revealed. The man is not the individual involved in the crimes for which Hastert is being sentenced. That individual was also allegedly sexually abused by Hastert, as was a man who died in 1995 whose sister may also testify at the sentencing.
The abuse allegedly took place while Hastert was a high school teacher in Illinois.
Hastert pleaded guilty last October to circumventing financial disclosure laws in the course of paying $1.7 million to the individual who was threatening to reveal that Hastert had abused him.
His sentencing hearing is scheduled for next month; federal sentencing guidelines recommend a sentence of up to six months in prison in Hastert’s case, but the judge imposing the sentence is not required to follow the guidelines.
