Watch a Photographer Apparently Get Caught Staging a Solemn Photo of a Child at a Brussels Memorial

The moment in question.

A New York-based photographer named James Pomerantz noted in a Facebook post Wednesday that a photographer in the background of a Fox correspondent’s report from Brussels appears to be moving a young girl’s arm into position for a picture at a memorial site:

Intervening in events in order to stage photographs is widely considered a violation of photojournalistic ethics.

The photography site PetaPixel identifies the photojournalist in the Fox shot as Khaled al Sabbah; click through to PetaPixel for a screen shot of what appears to be the picture of the young girl that he was setting up. The photo of the girl has been removed from al Sabbah’s Instagram page, which currently includes other photographs from Brussels memorials.

Al Sabbah was recently awarded a $15,000 prize by a Dubai photography organization for a photo of a man in Gaza City holding the body of a boy.

I’ve sent al Sabbah a Facebook message requesting comment and will update this post if he replies.
