And Here Is a Picture of a Child Dressed as 66-Year-Old Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu

Wednesday night marks the beginning of the Jewish holiday of Purim, a celebration of … eh, I’m not Jewish, let’s not pretend like I’m not going to just use Wikipedia to explain what Purim is:

Purim (/ˈpʊərɪm/Hebrew:  פּוּרִים (help·infoPûrîm ”lots“, from the word פור pur,[2] related to Akkadianpūru) is a Jewish holiday that commemorates the saving of the Jewish people from Haman, who was planning to kill all the Jews.

Haman! Chill out, man! So, one way Purim is celebrated, for some pretty inscrutable/arcane reasons, is by dressing up in costumes. So, yes, kind of like a Jewish Halloween, which incidentally sounds like the name of a moderately successful, Soul Asylum–level ‘90s alt-rock band.

Anyway the point here is that, as you can see above, a spokesman for conservative 66-year-old Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu tweeted a picture of a young male human child dressed, for Purim, as conservative 66-year-old Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Again:

On one level this makes sense because this is the rough Israeli equivalent of going as the president for Halloween. On another level it’s funny because Benjamin Netanyahu is a grumpy old man who is perhaps best known worldwide for being intransigent on the issue of West Bank settlement policy. Not exactly the kind of leader who you think of as being hot with the youth. It’s like going for Halloween as Calvin Coolidge or Harry Truman.

This kid’s parents were probably like, you’re sure you don’t want to be Batman? And he was like, no, I’m going to be conservative 66-year-old Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Kids! They dress as the darndest things for Purim.
