Update, 9:30 p.m.: During the GOP debate in Florida Thursday night, Trump confirmed Carson will be endorsing his candidacy.

Original Post: Robert Costa of the Washington Post is reporting Ben Carson plans on endorsing Donald Trump on Friday morning. Details are scarce, but according to multiple campaign sources, Costa reports that Carson and Trump met to finalize the deal on Thursday morning at Trump’s resort in Palm Beach, Fla. Carson dropped out of the race last week after spending months getting progressively weirder and essentially fading into the background of the Republican race.

The Carson endorsement should lock up the retired neurosurgeon vote for Trump and comes as a mild surprise given Trump’s ribbing of Carson while a candidate.

But, you know, bygones. In an interview on Fox News Radio on Thursday, Carson hinted that in private Trump wasn’t the raving lunatic he plays on TV:

“There’s the Donald Trump that you see on television and who gets out in front of big audiences, and there’s the Donald Trump behind the scenes. They’re not the same person. One’s very much an entertainer, and one is actually a thinking individual.”

There’s still no confirmation of which Trump Carson will be endorsing.
