A Washington, D.C., resident who's been featured on the local news for volunteering at a special-ed school and protesting conditions in her apartment building, McLaurin appeared in a December 2014 YouTube video asking to meet the president and was invited as part of Black History Month comemmorations.
"I tell you, I am so happy. A black president. A black wife. And I’m here to celebrate black history," says McLaurin in the White House video. She turns 107 on March 12.
