Though the Democratic candidates haven’t been as zinger-prone as their GOP peers, they’ve still produced their share of compelling quips and quotes. Here are some of Hillary, Bernie, and even O’Malley’s lines from the second Democratic debate.
Bernie Sanders on national security:
Climate change is directly related to the growth of terrorism. And if we do not get our act together and listen to what the scientists say ... you’re going to see all kinds of international conflict.
Martin O’Malley on American troops:
I was in Burlington, Iowa, and a mom of a service member of ours who served two duties in Iraq said, “Governor O’Malley, please, when you’re with your other candidates and colleagues onstage, please don't use the term ‘boots on the ground.’ Let's don't use the term ‘boots on the ground.’ My son is not a pair of boots on the ground.”
Hillary Clinton on middle-class wages:
I have made very clear that hardworking, middle-class families need a raise, not a tax increase. In fact, wages adjusted for inflation haven't risen since the turn of the last century, after my husband’s administration.
Bernie Sanders on his economic ideology:
I’m not that much of a socialist compared to Eisenhower.
Martin O'Malley on the GOP opposition:
Let’s say it in our debate because you’ll never hear this from that immigration-bashing carnival barker Donald Trump: the truth
Bernie Sanders on large campaign donors:
Why do they make millions of dollars of campaign contributions? They expect to get something.
Bernie Sanders on political revolution:
The political revolution is about is bringing people together to finally say enough is enough. This government belongs to us. Not just the billionaires.
Hillary Clinton on financing eduation:
I disagree with free college for everybody. I don't think taxpayers should be paying to send Donald Trump's kids to college.
Hillary Clinton on her fellow Democratic candidates:
All of us support funding Planned Parenthood. All of us believe climate change is real. All of us want equal pay for equal work.
This post will be updated throughout the debate.
