Watch Obama Frown as He Compares Republicans to Grumpy Cat

President Obama mimicks the Grumpy Cat frown at the Democratic Women’s Leadership Forum in Washington, D.C. on Oct. 23, 2015.

President Obama mocked Republicans by saying they’re generally so “down on America” that they remind him of Grumpy Cat, the notoriously dour-faced Internet sensation. An obviously fired up Obama took the stage at the Democratic Women’s Leadership Forum on Friday and didn’t waste time criticizing the GOP presidential hopefuls for being so pessimistic all the time.

“Overall, we are making enormous progress. And it does make you wonder why is it that Republican politicians are so down on America?” Obama asked. “I mean, they are gloomy. They’re like Grumpy Cat.”

Obama then went on to mimick the infamous Grumpy Cat frown that took the Internet feline to stardom and spawned thousands of memes. The crowd went wild.

“Everything is terrible, according to them,” the president said. “We’re doomed. I mean, I know it’s political season, but you listen to them and they’ve constructed this entire separate reality, like the twilight zone. And according to their story, their narrative, everything was terrific back in 2008.”

During his 23-minute speech, Obama used the word “crazy” several times to describe Republicans’ statements, notes CNN. “You’ve gotta feel bad for the fact-checkers for the Republicans,” Obama said, “‘cause they’ve got to spend hours trying to keep up with some of the crazy stuff that their candidates are claiming.”
