Hillary Clinton did something Tuesday that she’s refused to do since Americans learned she used a personal email account housed on a private server to do government business while secretary of state: She apologized directly for that decision.
“That was a mistake,” Clinton said during an interview with ABC News’ David Muir. “I’m sorry about that. I take responsibility. And I’m trying to be as transparent as I possibly can.”
That was a significant change in tune for the Democratic front-runner. On Monday, Clinton had told the Associated Press that she would not apologize for her unusual email setup because “what I did was allowed” by the State Department. She had similarly refused to apologize this past Friday during an interview with NBC News’ Andrea Mitchell, instead saying then that she was sorry only “that this has been confusing to people and has raised a lot of questions.”
