Trump Opens Fox Debate by Refusing to Promise He Won’t Run as an Independent

Fox News’ hosts opened tonight’s Republican 2016 presidential debate, in a moment of well-played spectacle, by asking candidates to raise their hands if they would consider running as an independent candidate if they weren’t the GOP nominee. The question was an obvious ruse to put Donald Trump—who could finance his own independent run, which would presumably suck up support for whoever is the Republican nominee—on the spot. Trump took the bait:

An independent Trump run would be good TV, if nothing else!
