Last Friday, the Humans of New York photo series got a new installment: an image of a young teenager with the caption, “I’m homosexual and I’m worried about what my future will be and that people won’t like me.”
The photo has generated thousands of comments, including one message of support from a familiar name.
“Prediction from a grown-up: Your future is going to be amazing,” reads a comment from Hillary Clinton’s official campaign Facebook page. “You will surprise yourself with what you’re capable of and the incredible things you go on to do. Find the people who love and believe in you–there will be lots of them. -H”
The “-H” is supposed to signal that a message was written by Hillary personally. The postings from the account are typically generated by staffers.
Jezebel notes that the message was quickly passed around by members of Clinton’s team. Kristina Schake, identified by Jezebel as the campaign’s deputy communications director, tweeted a screenshot that appeared to have been taken right away after the comment was posted.
Whether or not drawing attention to the post is part of Clinton’s effort to lock in LGBT support—an effort has sometimes been complicated by her shockingly-recent record of reluctance to accept same-sex marriage—the message had a feeling of genuine warmth that caught the eye of the page’s curators.
