Charleston’s Post and Courier reports that President Obama will deliver a eulogy for the Rev. Clementa Pinckney, the pastor and state senator who was killed along with eight others at the Emanuel AME Church on June 17. The funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at the College of Charleston’s TD Arena.
At a press conference the day after the Charleston shooting, Obama noted that he had known Pinckney personally and spoke forcefully about the American epidemic of firearm massacres. Said the president: “At some point we as a country will have to reckon with the fact that this type of mass violence does not happen in other advanced countries. It doesn’t happen in other places with this kind of frequency.”
Pinckney’s eulogy will be the second the president has delivered this month, following his remarks at Beau Biden’s funeral services in Delaware on June 6.
