FIFA Spokesman Resigns After Making Joke About Everyone at FIFA Getting Arrested

Here’s what FIFA’s director of communications, Walter De Gregorio, said in a recent appearance on Swiss TV:

“The Fifa president, Sepp Blatter, the director of communications and the general secretary are all sitting in a car – who is driving? The police.”

Pretty funny! Well, De Gregorio has now “resigned.”

Given that Swiss authorities just seized computer data from FIFA president Sepp Blatter and general secretary Jerome Valcke, maybe De Gregorio’s “joke” will end up being an accurate prediction. (De Gregorio himself doesn’t appear to ever have been accused of any corruption, though he did work on Sepp Blatter’s 2011 FIFA re-election campaign, and most things that Blatter touches later turn into bribery scandals.)
