Former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney put on red silk trunks and got in the ring to face off against five-time world heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield for a much-hyped bout to raise money for charity. Romney got into the ring as “I Will Survive” played in the background. His wife got into the spirit of things by sporting her baseball cap sideways. But shocker: He lost.
The fight between Romney, 68, and Holyfield, 52, went on for two rounds with “each landing gentle blows that appeared more like a tickle fight than a boxing match,” notes CNN. At one point Romney throws a punch and Holyfield fell theatrically to the ground. But Romney seemed to have sensed he had gone too far and started running around the ring away from the former heavyweight champion before throwing in the towel. “As you can tell, I’m not a boxer—don’t laugh so hard, c’mon,” Romney joked after the fight was over, according to MSNBC. “For a man who’s never got in the ring to box, he can throw a jab,” Holyfield said. “He can move around. I was impressed.” The fight reportedly raised $1 million for CharityVision, which is run by Romney’s son Josh and performs pro-bono surgeries to help blind people.
