Three moms across the country got a special treat for Mother’s Day when they picked up the phone this past week and realized the commander-in-chief was on the other end of the line. All of the women had written letters to President Obama and were told to expect a call, but they never expected POTUS himself would be the one to ring. “To my surprise, the man himself was on the other line,” Stephanie Tarr, a mother of two boys, told the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

“I was just in complete shock that this was happening,” Tarr said. “The whole conversation and everything around it has been surreal.”

The White House released video that showed excerpts of the president’s calls to mothers in Minnesota, Arizona, and Florida, notes CNN.

“I know how tough it is to raise kids and do right by them, and if it hadn’t been for my mother, I certainly wouldn’t be here,” Obama said on one of the phone calls. “You are doing the most important work there is.”
